Tiananmen Square aka: 天安门广场

Located at the center of Beijing City is Tiananmen Square, where you can visit Tiananmen Tower, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. Thousands of people come to the Square every day. It is the must place to visit in Beijing City.
At the north end of the Square is Tiananmen Tower. The granite Monument to the People’s Heroes is just at the center of the Tiananmen Square.West of the Square is the Great Hall of the People.Mao Zedong Memorial Hall is at the south side of the Square. Another important place for the tourist to visit is the China National Museum at the east side of the Square.

Five years ago, I visited this place

Amazing and huge!

It was a cold and windy day when we were there. It was almost completely empty except for the guards.

not worth it on its own. but set aside some time after forbidden city visit to go check this place out :)

Exciting place which you should visit after a walkabout trough Forbidden City. However, I felt sad, thinking of what happened there in 1989.

The day we went to Tianamen Square was incredible, the first few days of being in China were also three consecutive national holidays, so there were heaps of tourists from within China in Beijing. Our group received lots of attention because we’re from Australia, and people wanted photos with the blondes/redheads/brunettes, and just generally the group of very different people! It was very surreal, having this temporary celebrity status.

Apparently it holds over a million people, so go ahead, bring a couple friends.
