Worth visiting!

field trip

I went to Tate Modern on a field trip with college. I’d been wanting to go there for ages, but as we were with college we only had like an hour which wasn’t enough time to see it.

I’ve seen pictures of the slides before, it was interesting to see them up close, but i was too scared to try one out.

Contemplate a visit to Tate!

Impressive. Remember several years ago seeing a Jackson Pollock exibition that blew us away!

Not worth visiting!

A review of this place: I go here about once a week.

It’s got great interesting art but some work that I think is poor.

Its amazing there, we only got an hour which sucked, when I go to Londond again in March, I hope to go to Tate again to try the slides, because I wore a skirt last time.
Warning: Dont wear skirts! haha you can go on the slides in one, but im just a very careful person, not willing to exspose all to the world hehe :]
Amazing place.

Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

i went the week before last while i was visiting london. i really wanted to check out that metal slide installation (forgive me, i’ve forgotten the artist’s name at the moment) which will be there until april so i recommend getting over there if you can. it was a wonderful time! the only thing is, i arrived too late in the day to get a pass to the highest level of the slides. maybe it was for the better, level four turned out to be more than i anticipated for sure. levels three and four are both completely worth it. the rush is when you are sitting on the little canvas mat they give you, your heart is pounding, and you realize there really is no backing out. you go so fast! i bumped my elbows. don’t be fooled because the box of helmets and knee/elbow guards aren’t just there for the weaklings.

they also have a great gift shop and beautiful other rooms to wander through. very unique pieces to view. i liked the room by mark rothko because it was nice to sit down in the dark for awhile, fixate on the art and reflect. had it not been so close to closing, i probably could have stayed a lot longer. a definite recommendation.

A tip I have about this place

Way more fun than your typical museum. An astounging number of pieces are displayed. The building is amazing. Really fun.

A difficult one...

In my mind a huge ammount of the stuff here is pretentious pap which involves no skill, imagination or creativity, and is merely propergated by an ‘arty’ elite who decide what is ‘art’ and thus can look down on anyone who doesn’t agree. (This pains me slightly as I am not usually this cynical, and am aware that I have heard similar comments in other fields which just come across as anti-intelectualism)

Having said that there’s a huge variety there, and some of the stuff is interesting, and hasn’t been created merely to push the boundaries of what ‘art’ can be, a theme which should have been exhausted back with Duchamp’s urinal. Plus its one of those things that you need to have seen, if only to be able to insist ‘Never again.’

"Some People"

to be honest I think the reason I think this place is not worth visiting is because i don’t really “get” modern art. Some of it was quite cool. The arty videos and stuff. But i was walking around and I started in the same room i finished.. and was there about an hour and the same person was just still stood in the same place starring at this peice which was just a blue tile. I mean come on… it;s a blue tile!! I’m not a pleb or anything, and i like to think of myself as fairly cultural.. but 1 HOUR llooking at a BLUE TILE! I’m glad i’m not one of those people.. i’d never get out of my bathroom!
