Salumi

I’m not a giant-piece-of-bread-with-very-little-salumi person, so when I go I usually get a cold or hot meat plate instead of a sandwich. It comes with a bit of baguette so you can choose your own meat/bread ratio, and there’s always more than enough to take home for a second lunch or a pre-dinner snack.

I came into Salumi since my mother insisted on treating us here. I really had no expectations about the place, because I had never heard of it before. The locale is outstanding, very appealing and clean.

After having a sandwich —decent but not great—, I was surprised to learn the hype and famousness of it. Actually one of the sandwiches was served with very little salami and was mostly a huge piece of bread.

Though I wouldn’t say it wasn’t worth it, I was not impressed. I still find it hard to understand why people swear by this place (?!)

Take your lunch around the corner to Waterfall Park and enjoy it there. Try not to have your heart set on a particular type of salami; they might have run out and seriously it’s all good.

A nice article in the NYTimes ran today on Armandino Batali, the proprietor of Salumi’s new crop of culatello.

At least, I can’t think of anyplace better for lunch.

If you get a sandwich, eat 1/2 and save the other 1/2 for later in the day….

So good, it’s only open 11am-4pm on weekdays. A true Italian deli in Seattle. Here’s some more on Salumi.
