A review of this place: cute and cozy

I went to the Crumpet shop with 2 friends on Saturday morning. VERY busy, but worth the wait (which wasn’t too long). There are too many delicious choices for crumpet toppings, I went with the raspberry jam and butter along with a cup of piping hot oatmeal. The crumpets are perfect and couldn’t be tastier

A tip I have about this place

Great sandwiches for lunch! I used to get their Washington Chicken Sandwich once every few weeks while working near the market.

The first time I went to this place

was in the late seventies early eighties. I had always wanted to try a crumpet. Loved the way the butter & raspberry preserves pooled in the deep holes left by the air bubbles. Like a really thick pancake just before you flip it!
They’re so fresh, unlike the readily available crumpets sitting on the grocery store shelves.

The last time I went to this place

I went with CIScott on December 29 on a brisk but sunny Seattle day. Crowded but delightful, with a slew of bread, tea, and the _de rigueur_coffee choices. I was offered some lentil soup, and took it—very lovely.

I don’t know why it took me so long to get to this place. The storefront is tiny and unassuming, but so much warmth and goodness for the tummy inside. Thanks to Ciscott for buddying up with me for the visit.

I finally went there with ChristinaMarie a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to Christina’s quick eye we were able to get a table at lunchtime. We both had crumpets and the soup of the day – a lentil. The food was tasty, and the company made it even better.

We were intrigued by the sandwiches as they make them with fresh baked bread, but the bread wasn’t ready until a few minutes after we got there, and we just had an hour. Since it’s such a busy place (I wouldn’t always count on getting a table) I think this would be a good place to go and pick up lunch to bring back to my office (I work just a few blocks away).

Thank you Christina for helping me cross this off my list!

We come from SoCal

To get these crumpets! We lived and worked in Seattle over 20 years ago and stopped by the Crumpet Shop at least 2x a week to pick up a pack of crumpets. Since coming back to SoCalifornia, we still send friends and business associates on an errand if we know they will be near Pike Place Market to pick up crumpets for us! Like none we have ever had! Sure miss going there!

The first time I went to this place

When I first started at Amazon, it was a tradition to take new people to the crumpet shop on the first morning of their first day. The Columbia Building (where the developers worked) was just a block away.

Nancy is kinda mean, but she serves a mean crumpet

The owner of this place is an incredibly uptight woman, but she is secretly a sweetie pie. She is slim with gray hair and glasses and she’s typically bossing around the young staff. If you get a chance to order food from her, try asking for some custom change to a standard menu item and delight in her stiff refusal! So fun! The crumpets are crisp on the outside, soft in the middle and tasty – try one with jalapenos and cheese or the pesto with ham – and the bread is YUMMY and warm and you want to fall asleep on a big piece of toast in a pool of melted butter. Comfort in the Market. And Nancy remembers me even though I haven’t been their regularly in years (used to work nearby). But she STILL won’t let me make a custom order. Love her!
