Palmer

i was born and raised in palmer, so i know my way around. the city itself is ok, but check out the surrounding areas: hatcher’s pass has a ton to offer (especially if your vehicle can handle one of the many nice but unmaintained side roads) and the glenn highway past sutton is amazing. vagabond blues coffeeshop is nice and arty, but for a real slice of palmer culture, go to the valley hotel restaurant for a cup of coffee and a slice of pie. drawbacks: has gotten much more commercial in the last 5 years (or 10 really) and the bar scene, while hoppin, is kinda trashy.

I went to Palmer to the Alaska state fair in 2001. i went there to photograph Jaci Velasquez in concert. it was a day trip. the cool thing is that the vegetables grow really large in palmer because of the long days in summer, and the fertile valley. at the fair they have freakin huuuuuuuuuge vegetables that look like something out of Alice in Wonderland. check it out late august

Propbably a nice place to live and raise children but not to visit. There is absolutely nothing to do in Palmer as a tourist. Ride a horse maybe, see a moose. That’s all.

Left when I was 8, so I don’t remember much, but I remember loving Alaska… the snow, the people, the history.

Grew up here. I miss it more than anything in the world!

My hometown!

Grew up all over Alaska, jr hi and high school in Palmer. Nice in the summer, home of the big veggies you hear about, and the State Fair… maybe Cheap Trick will headline again this year!
