Angkor was nice, but it was in other places that I fell in love with Cambodia :-)

How this place changed my life

Before going to Angkor Wat, I had already had the privileged to travel quite a bit, but for some reason never considered visiting the many wonders of the world. This place is amazing! It’s huge first of all (so wear proper walking shoes) and sooo beautiful. You feel a sense of history walking through the ruins and its just incredible when you learn how old this place is and everything that went on there. The most incredible thing is the fact that someone ‘found’ this place, it was literally hidden for years by over growth and trees. This place gave me the bug! The traveling bug, I can’t seem to sit still since and this burning desire to see more just won’t go away. Life is good.

A review of this place

In one word, Angkor Wat is breathtaking. It is also huge, beautiful, fantastic…There are so many temples in the area, one could spend three full days just exploring the ruins.

I focused on the Angkor Wat itself, as well as Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm (Tomb Raider temple). I recommend getting a tour guide as there is no way one can appreiciate all the details and history behind all the temples, carvings… The trees growing on top of Ta Prohm are incredible and have to be seen to fully appreciate.

Please go ahead and buy something from the kids outside haggling you to buy postcards, bracelets.. I actually didnt because I did not want to encourage their haggling behaviour but I now regret since most of these kids have nothing and live in extreme poverty.

Overall, this is probably the most incredible place I have ever visited. I hope to come again someday!!

The hunt for the next 7 Wonders of the World

There is an on-going world-wide vote for the next 7 Wonders of the World, since only one of the original is still standing (the Pyramids of Egypt).

Angkor is one of the 21 finalists, so go vote for it, and for your other 6 picks! Voting ends July 7, 2007.

The last time I went to this place

i was on my winter-break vacation to cambodia, my hometown.. and so i visited the angkor wat on 7th january 2007.. it was a hot day, it always is.. before getting to the top of the angkor wat.. me, my sister, and my parents (4 of us) had a yummy finger-licking grilled chicken infront of the temple.. the food was fair cheap comparing to any meal in america even KFC.. LOL we took a load of pictures with angkor wat, our national honor, as the background.

have you ever seen this temple in a picture or art? well, you gotta see it right in your face.. it’s not just pieces of ancient giant rocks, but a well designed with great history and arts on the wall of itself.

A tip I have about this place

Angkor Wat itself is a giant temple and I much preferred the other parts of Angkor to Angkor Wat. Other areas like Ta Proom (sp?) is where the trees grow over the temples and look so magical. It is all amazing and a must see for SE Asia.

I lived here in a past life.
Loved the temples,
Loved the people, and the food.
I want to go back.
