Ngorongoro Crater
(in Tanzania)
World's Largest Unbroken Caldera
After watching the PBS show “The Living Edens”, I’ve always wanted to visit the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. It’s like a self contained zoo right in the middle of the Serengeti. Almost all of the species that draw tourists to Africa reside right inside this “living Eden”. I’ve been to the Wild Animal Park in Southern California, which has a large 1,800 acre enclosure with the same animals. Riding along in an electric tram on a 5 mail loop around the enclosure isn’t close enough to what I would call a wild experience, especially considering the crater is about 65,000 acres, 36 times bigger.
