Because on one Monday night each month they host Porchlight Stories. A pre-selected group of storytellers, professional and amateur, get up and tell stories on a specific theme. It can be funny, embarrassing, anything.
The best part the night I went (animal stories) was the part when one volunteer from the audience is chosen at random to tell their own story. The gal who got up there brought down the house. She was a riot.

Saw The Samples here two nights in a row. Intimate, tiny venue to see your favorite band. Friendly crowds. A bit pricey, but that’s part of the Cali experience, eh? Beautiful accoutrements, crappy food. Go for the show!!

An old prohibition bar, revamped into a very mellow place that also hosts some great music. A most excellent place for a first date, as you feel intimate without feeling smooshed together, and the place encourages you to sit back and relax.
The only thing I don’t like about this place is that they get mad when you leave before a show to go drink at another, much cheaper, bar just down the street. The bouncer told me it was “a lame thing to do.” I told him I was broke, and he was lucky he even got my cover for the show.

It was awesome. Tons of ladies snorting coke in the bathroom, this guy puked on the floor before the show even started. Peggy and I were really concerned that people were going to slip in the puke as the man who had released the puke was slipping and sliding all over the place. This girl smelled like baby powder and peggy informed us that the reason girls use baby powder is to cover up the smell of their yeast infection. Oh god I love peggy. Where does she come up with this stuff. It’s hilerious. Anyway, it is an intimate club with a really good ambiance. Yeah and Buck 65 was doing the Charleston, yeah the dance, and when I had my BENEFIT party last week I totally imitated it for like 5 minutes in Erins and I’s 3 hour dance off. Yeah Dancing like crazy ROBOTS for 3 count um THREE hours. It was awesome, but yeah the Charleston.

and good atmosphere. A comfortable place to see a show. Go early and get a bite to eat. Sit at a table on the elevated seating section if you want to see the show while eating.

In 2004, I saw the Dresden Dolls perform here. The intimacy of the setting, as well as the intense atmosphere, were unforgettable. The beauty of the venue, too, was striking.
In short, I’ve never left a venue so amazed. I can’t wait to back again and again.

I’ve been once and I recall it has a LONG set of stairs going down to the club. Beautiful, intimate setting.

I like this club a lot for a few reasons:
first: obviously the good music
second: it’s very conveniently located right on Market (literally across the street from Church St.)
third: people are very polite (unlike the pushy Popscene-sters)
I haven’t tried the food there yet, but it looks pretty good. Here’s the list of shows that I went to there this year.
6/10: Fri. The National, Menomena, TalkDemonic (also The Robbers on High Street, but I missed them)
5/25: Wed. Architecture In Helsinki, Still Flyin’, DJ’S from AIH
3/26: Pretty Girls Make Graves, Dios Malos, Kill Me Tomorrow
My brother also saw Butterfly Boucher and the Trash Can Sinatras there, how cool is that?!
