Sunset is Amazing

Visited Carlsbad and White Sands in the same day. The kids loved every minute of it. The “Alkali Flat Trail” is simply amazing. The sand was suprizingly cool and we were able to stroll along barefoot the entire time.

Go for the full moon experience

I have been to White Sands three times – in bright sun, during a rainy day and at night. All are worth the trip. Quite stunning!

Why I recommend this place to visitors

It is both scenic and fun and big enough to be all by yourself within walking just a few minutes. Since the sand is actually gypsum, it stays quite cool, and you can walk barefoot in it even on a hot day.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

This is such a wonderful place to visit. The scenery is beautiful and the atmosphere is calm and inviting. This is a great place to go and get away from everyday life. It’s a great place to take the kids because they can slide down the dunes on sand disks. It’s great for picnicing and just having a good time.

A tip I have about this place

White Sands is well worth the visit if you’re in the El Paso/Las Cruces area. It’s just about the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life.

1) Get gas in Las Cruces. The next gas station is 50 miles away in Alamogordo.

2) Bring toys. A sled would be perfect.

3) Bring sun block. The reflection off of the sand makes the sun even stronger.

4) Bring tons of water. It’s so dry, your lips start cracking in minutes.

5) Bring more toys. White Sands is like a winter sports park in the hot desert where sand replaces snow. Don’t bring skis or a snowboard, unless you don’t mind it getting scratched up. The sand can be coarse.
