If you have time, drive around the canyon. There are lots of places where you can park and take pictures. It is less crowded than the visitor center. Spend a full day or two, it is all worth it!

I just wasn’t “wowed” by the Grand Canyon. It’s a big hole in the ground. But I blame my lack of excitement on the fact that this was my first time going and I think the grandeur and large scale of the canyon takes more than one trip to grow on you. It’s just SO BIG that it’s hard to take it all in. The air is so clean and the wind is so nice on the Desert View side. We actually drove through some thick clouds trying to get to Desert View. I think the Desert View side is less “touristy” and you can get a lot of alone time to yourself to realize how beautiful nature is. I will be going back, probably by myself because the people I went with just wouldn’t quiet down enough so that I could meditate.

I stopped at the south rim on my way to Illinois from Cali, and it was definitely a highlight of the trip. Breathtaking. I definitely would’ve wanted to stop by the glass lookout at one of the reservations, but we didn’t have enough time. Also, next time I am definitely going to go on the water rapids journey. We saw the imax movie of all the different sites and the history of it and that was fun too.
