Awesome

Big Bend is one of the most awe inspiring places on earth. I spent stayed in the lodge there which is a classic retro building.

The colours and the landscape is completely mind boggling.

I would definitely recommend going there. I would also advise taking a car, as it is HUGE.

Rio Grande

Some friends and I drove to Texas for spring Break during college and went back-packing at Big Bend National Park for the week. I had never back-packed in dry conditions and was surprised at the amount of water I needed to carry. One of us had the bright idea that we could boil water from the Rio Grande. I think I was the only one to drink the water we attempted to boil. I was the only one to get sick on that trip as well. I suppose there was a connection. Despite this, I loved the trip; especially the hike we took by full-moon light. Me Encanta la luna.

My wife and I honeymooned at Big Bend during the annual Leonid meteor shower. There’s practically no light pollution, even near the Chisos Mountain Lodge. We enjoyed our best nights of stargazing ever, and more than a few memorable day hikes. The Lodge is the only real patch of civilization in the park. Meals and rooms are decent. The scenery is tremendous, but if you’re not used to hiking in the heat, you’ll want to keep your walks short. Even in November, temperatures got into the 90s.

I have been going to Big Bend with my family every summer since I was 5. It is one of the largest and least visited national parks in the United States. It is one my favorite places on earth. There are many trails worth hiking down and if the rivers not too low it’s good to canoe, especially through Santa Elena Canyon. It’s not very crowded and a good place to get away to. If you visit exspect hot days, but cool nights (it is a desert). On clear nights the stars are amazing. Some of my favorite trails are the window trail, south rim, and balancing rock.
