Raised in Puerto Rico

I do not live in PR anymore but I still have all my family there. I lived in Reparto Valencia, Bayamon for 25 years. My brother still live there. I always tell people that if they go to PR, they need to visit places outside San Juan. I always suggest to visit the west coast of PR which has beautiful landscapes. I also suggest the visit the towns in the mountains, such as Aibonito, Barranquitas, and Jayuya. I have family in Cabo Rojo and Jayuya.

A tip I have about this place

Puerto Rico is my favorite island. Someday I would like to retire there. Old San Juan is as charming as any town in europe. I adore the people and find them the most friendly and the MOST BEAUTIFUL in the world. When you visit, do not forget the western part of the island. Cabo Rojo, Boriquen-where the sun always shines on the Carribean Sea. Ponce, a great little spot, reminiscent of New Orleans, with a sweet little world class Art Museum. What’s not to love?

The first time I went to this place

i stopped here on a cruise … i thought that la isla verde was a nice beach to visit. i went on a weekday so it was “quiet” ... the cab ride was cheap. i found food and a bar nearby. it was clean, the water was warm … the surf was strong. the people were super friendly. i didn’t see too much of the rest of the island as our stay was short. i briefly got to see a very tiny portion of old san juan … i’ll have to give that another go as this time around i wasn’t very impressed, but then maybe i didn’t really see it the way it is meant to be seen. all in all, i’m interested in going back. maybe next time i’ll take a cruise leaving from there so i can spend time there before and after my cruise!

A tip I have about this place

If you’re going to go to Puerto Rico, don’t go to the typical tourist places, i.e. San Juan… Rincon is where it’s at!! My family has a house on Sandy Beach right outside of Rincon. You can really get a feel for the island there, there are no fast food joints or chain stores in the city. This is a SURFING town, or as the locals like to say “A small little drinking town with a big surfing problem.”

A review of this place: GREAT PLACE TO VISIT

I HAVE BEEN TO PUERTO RICO ABOUT FIVE TIMES. FOUR OF THE FIVE HAVE BEEN ON CRUISES AND THE OTHER WAS A FULL TRIP STAYING IN A HOTEL. OLD SAN JUAN IS BEAUTIFUL, THERE IS AN AMAZING FORT THERE. THE BEACHES ARE NICE AND THE FOOD IS GREAT. THE TRIP TO THE RAIN FOREST IS WELL WORTH IT.
