A tip I have about this place

If you are planning to go to see the Fourth of July fireworks in Gas Works Park, 3:00 PM is a good time to arrive. You should still be able to find plenty of spots to stake out on the grass. By 5:00 PM you would have to squeeze in between other people and/or accept a less-than-ideal view. By 7:00 PM, it’s a challenge to walk through the park and the food lines are ridiculously long. By 9:00 PM it’s standing room only – literally – people are lining the paths, which makes it nearly impossible to move.

Hopefully this tip will help someone. All I could find was “arrive early”, and I didn’t know how early “early” was. (We went too early!)

Great spot

to sit back and admire the city views across the lake. There’s always something to look at on the water, with a constant parade of sailboats bobbing along. Apparently it’s a great place from which to watch the 4th July fireworks.

Love the fact that they left the old gas works standing. Not your average pristine urban park at all!

But As That Would Be Awesome They Should Look Into That

No matter what 10 Things I Hate About You tells you, there is no paintball at Gas Works Park.

My dad’s friend used to own a kite shop near Gas Works. When my brother and I were younger he would take us here every weekend after we went to the Varsity Inn across from the kite shop for breakfast and shopped in the aforementioned kite shop.

It’s definitely one of the most interesting parks in Seattle.

Cool Park

We attended a unit picnic at this park. The kids thought the old gas works were cool to look at. Plenty of trees and open spaces.

A review of this place

Picnic, skateboard, kites, wandering, bicycle. It’s pretty much the perfect city park.

Go during a festival. Go on a sunny day. Take a date in the evening, find the ‘secret’ benches that face the city across the water, and make out. Or just write poetry. Or something.

Easy access by bike via Burke-Gillman Trail.

My favorite spot in Seattle

Maybe it’s my affinity for Tim Burtonesque environments. but this place really appealed to me. A big hulking gas plant covered in grafitti, surrounded by scrub growth (‘cause not much will grow there), warning signs against the health hazards of swimming, and a nice playground. Such contrast. I dig it.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

If you are a visitor, you will love this place. I go here often to just relax. its pretty quiet, and there are usually plenty of people, there are large fields to run around, jog, play with your dog, fly a kite, and also an amazing view of downtown skyline.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

a must stop for anyone cuz it has a fab view of downtown and the main hills and the lake….the night time view is just as awesome as the daytime one….i’ve wanted to get pix of the night view, but that requires lens that i don’t have for my camera… ;(
it’s nice to sit on the grass and just listen and watch and relax…totally worth it to anyone and everyone to visit it at least once in their lives…
