A review of this place: a highlight of our trip

The palace is so accessible and compact, but there are so many interesting nooks and corners to explore. Interesting people to watch, good food, and the history of this ‘site’ is unfolding and continuing to this day. Transportation is easy to and from here.

I liked it better than Dubrovnik.

The last time I went to this place

The most underestimated tourist destination in Croatia for sure.
It is not known enough how reach is this towns history (1700 years old), you can wonder for hours trough old town streets (Diocletian palace – roman emperror). Specially underestimated comparing to Dubrovnik, because it offers more – excursions to islands, more beaches arround, old city compared to Dubrovnik and yet 500 years older!!

Split

Very fun city, and great place to access all the islands! Its the largest Croatian city on the Adriatic coast. Highly recommended!

2000 years of history

It’s like a cross section of the past two millennia! And really beautiful to boot.

I go here every year, because some people from my family live herer and i think it’s a great city. People are friendly and everyone are relaxed. There are som beautiful beaches but ones in the centre are a bit poluted, they are not really but I am used to a very clean sea :D It is definetively worth doing

I liked Split because the hostel I was living in was great. But the waters around the place aren’t so fantastic – best to go to Brac, an island nearby, and the food isn’t too cheap either, although not as expensive as in Dubrovnik. There’s a bakery open really, really late, grab a snack after nightswimming; but beware the local boys – too darned “friendly”.

Good jumping off point...

...for exploring the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. Feels more Italian than Slavic, even has its own Roman ruin.

Historic

Lots of Roman ruins and even an old Sphinx make this a worthy destination.

Learn to drive stick

My boyfriend and I were driving from Dubrovnik to Rijeka and in Split he taught me to drive stick. It was a Sunday, so the city was empty, a ghosttown, everything was closed. We pulled behind a bakery, and then behind a train yard so I could practice. I can drive on highways, but still not in a city. Can’t handle the fancy stickwork.
