At the Blue Marlin, Drunk on Gin and Jazz...

...as a music major at the University, I wrote a poem about gin and jazz and limes in a matchbook. It ended with the line, “fucking limes, I’m just going to eat them anyway.”

You are soooo cool at age 21.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Fairbanks is the most beautiful place to visit in the summer. I like to go gold panning, eat some good fish and go to Chena Hot Springs when I visit Fairbanks. I used to go to Hight School there. The schools are very nice.

How this place changed my life

This is my hometown. I’ve done a lot of traveling and always seem to return. Fairbanks has grown from small town to something of middle-america tourist spawn (ala the arrival of the big stores: walmart, homedepot, barns & nobel, etc) but alaskans have a way of keeping things grounded.

btw why on earth did someone tag Fairbanks with ‘garlic’? :o

A tip I have about this place

Careful about travelling during fire season. I drove from Whitehorse to Fairbanks one summer during July and got smoked in from the forest fires.

A review of this place

I think Fairbanks would be a fine place to live. It’s small but just big enough. It’s a college town in many aspects. UAF is a fine school. But these are just reasons to live there.

Also, if you have family there that might swing your reasons for visiting.

I see no point whatsoever in going to Fairbanks for vacation or getaway purposes. There are many other places to spend time (and money) in Alaska. There many prettier places, and many less flammable places.

Muskox Farm!

My brother lives in Fairbanks, so my dad and I visited him on our way to Anchorage. Wow, this place is really like, “the last frontier.” They have a muskox farm on the university campus so they can study these animals. They are so funny and cute and they have the softest fur on their underbelly. It is softer than cashmere and super warm. This was probably my favorite part of the trip to Fairbanks. We also went to the flea market where I got delicious honey to bring home and ate a piece of gluten free cake. Mmmmmm. Go here if you want to esxperience a whole new kind of wilderness. Don’t go here if you are a city girl.

How this place changed my life

i was born and raised in fairbanks and i think it shaped the kind of person i am. ive made some life long friends living in fairbanks. multiple people i have met have said that alaskans are always so genuinely nice people. i believe i fall into that category. i moved out of alaska to go to college but i will always consider alaska home. i wouldnt want to have been raised anywhere else.

I stayed a few miles out of fairbanks in northpole, and went into farbanks occasionally. it didn’t seem any different than any city located in the lower 48.

How this place changed my life

I spent what I consider to be the most significant portion of my life in Fairbanks. It has a special place in my heart with warm and touching memories.

Why I want to go to this place

My parens lived in Alaska for several years before having kids. Once they went to Fairbanks on a day trip and ended up buying a puppy. Fairbanks was the sweetest dog ever and I want to visit his namesake.
