Ephesus aka: Efes

I love architectural ruins…and desperately wanted to visit Efes. It was incredible – a gorgeous site and awe-inspiring ruins. Not to be missed if you are in Turkey.

Ephesus is amazing if you love History! It’s just a shame you might feel a bit rushed by the Tour Guides.

It’s a fascinating place.You see how people actually lived.Where was the library the bathrooms,the houses the theatre,everything.Just remember to wear a hat and bring a lot of water,it can be realy hot.And don’t forget money to buy souvenirs,books,maps,figures etc.Oh,I almost forgot to add that you can take a cab to Ephesus or you can go with your tour group.Listen carefuly to the guide and DON’T FORGET THE CAMERA!

It’s vast, and just 1/4 uncovered. We were fortunate to have an excellent guide, the wife of a friend. I think that was important. If possible, get yourself on a tour organized by a local company – try the ones in Izmir. Don’t get attached to a tour aimed at Americans – too superficial.

Did you know they actually had pipe plumbing befroe Christ. It’s evident here. Fascinating place.

...TO SEE MY FAMILY’S HOUSE, THEY “LEFT” IN 1922…

This was one of the stops we made on a cruise of several Greek and Turkish islands I took a few years ago. Walking around the place gave me goosebumps. I’d also like to visit Istanbul. I didn’t get to see nearly enough of Turkey

Ephesus was stunning, but I laboured through it with the most diabolical Raki-induced hangover imaginable.
