It’s not crowded, compared to Florence or other big cities. You can walk along the wall and visit the churches or the Botanical garden.

Lucca is great for laid back day out if you’re staying nearby. It’s an active yet quiet town (meaning that there are local shops and markets with tourists strolling about but it is not overcrowded or noisy). The buildings are beautiful. It’s just a short train ride from Pisa or Florence and is well worth it as a day trip.

I came here on my own when i was 17 to take part in a life-changing course called Transformational Leadership, at a beautiful villa in Lucca. I now volunteer for the charity, to promote it. My life has not been the same since. You discover who you really are.
If you want to spend a week in a luxurious lucca villa, meet some inspiring people and work towards making a difference in this world then go on one of these courses. Teaching is FREE, just pay for flights and accomo.

Very easy access to Pisa airport and a million miles nicer than Pisa for a night or more.

My parents live in Lucca and we go and visit them every year. It’s changed a little in the past few years as more tourists are dicovering it, but it’s still a great place to visit! Walkable little charming town with the Mura surrounding it. You can easily rent a bike. If you go in September, you’ll enjoy the medieval festival.

If you are in Tuscany, I strongly recommend you a day trip visit to Lucca. It’s 1 hour by train from Florence and 25 minutes from Montecatini Terme.
The city centre is surrounded by walls and the city is very picturesque. If you have time, rent a car and drive through Garfagnana mountains region. There are many many small cities worthy to visit: Castiglione di Garfagnana, Fornovolasco etc.

Lucca is a beautiful and quiet city in northern Tuscany. I visited in early April and the weather was perfect. An earthen wall about three stories high surrounds the town. The wall is wide enough for a jogging and biking path, and provides many places to sit and drink wine and just look out at a huge meadow surrounding the wall.
