Visiting the Amish farms was really cool, I love learning about other cultures. The area is beautiful too.

I love Lancaster County. I grew up there and even though I live in Southern California now, I always think about going back. It’s so peaceful and beautiful.

My dad lives here & although it’s not the sort of place many international tourists like myself would normally come to visit, I love it here. Many of my friends live here, the countryside is incredibly still & beautiful, and coming back to Lancaster, PA is like coming home….except much colder..

No, I’m not Amish, but I do descend from some honest to goodness “Pennsylvania Dutch.” Seriously, go to Lancaster County (and make sure to stop off in “Lancaster City” while you’re there…haha) at some point in your life. It’s really not like any other place on earth. As long as you keep away from Route 30 and the tourist-trappy outlet mall crapland, you’ll probably think it’s great there (well, unless tourist traps are your thing). Go to Central Market of a Saturday morning, or check Roots Farmers Market of a Tuesday Afternoon. You’ll find great produce, delicious baked goods, and all manner of other weird stuff, all in one place.

And I did not appreciate it until I moved away. Make sure you go to a few touristy Amish things like a buggy ride and a working Amish farm etc. Stop along all the roadside farmers markets. Amazing food. Penn Dutch people know how to cook. A GREAT restaurant where you will get REAL Pennsylvania Dutch food is Dienners in Ronks. Nothing fancy but then again you ARE in the land of “Plain and Fancy”. Lots of great antique deals in Lancaster County too and lots of quilt shops and craft stores. Make sure you sample some Shoo-fly Pie. Oh and stop at Kitchen Kettle Village – amazing homemade jams and jellies and relishes. There are other stores there too.
With names like Intercourse, Bird-in-Hand, Virginville, Peach Bottom, Reamstown, Blue Ball, and Puseyville – you can’t go wrong!!!

if you’re looking for a peaceful vacation, like the amish (especially the quilts and furniture), or are passing through, it’s worth a visit. there’s not much to do aside from checking out the tourist traps and shopping, but there’re some great bed and breakfasts that make a quiet, relaxing weekend away worth it.

I live here, and I think it’s nice. Get lost in the back roads, and don’t patronize any tourist trap that has “Amish” in the title. The outlets are not worth much.
