Siena aka: Sienna

The highlight of our travels through Tuscany. Wonderful people and none of the tacky tourist elements of Pisa & Florence. Plus, the best pizza I have ever had!

This is the most wonderful place that I have ever been in my life. I would spend the rest of my life here if I was able. I miss it terribly.

Sienna is a small and beautiful medieval town. It seems it is very well preserved. It was a very refreshing change of scene after all Roman architecture and art in Rome.
We couldn’t stay long there. I had my first Italian conversation there (Just asking price of a drink :) ) also there was a festival/concerts going on.

I went on a day trip to Siena while on a trip to Firenze. The city was very beautiful, and I especially liked the Piazza del Campo.

The beautiful plaza, the gorgeous restaurants….. And we were there a scant two weeks after the horse race last summer, when the caterpillars were still flying their flags. And the locals still had their chests puffed out so proudly.

You can just blend in and stroll along the street with the locals. Watch the kids get out of school in the afternoon, families going out for the evening stroll before dinner, and enjoy the evening in this great city. The food is fabulous and the atmosphere is incredible. I fell in love with Siena and can’t wait to go back again.

We’re going here next May for our official wedding (as opposed to the shotgun wedding). It should be a wonderful trip, I know I want to go to Pisa as well, and Florence of course, not sure what else.

Make sure you climb the 500+ step tower. It is hands down the best view you can get anywhere in Tuscany.
