Matt's in the Market

I Went here last night for a dinner party, and it was sensational! I actually used to work for the same family that the chef cooking that night did. It was great to see him again. He cooks there a couple nights a week and is amazing. Last night it was all about the specials for me. My appetizer was Jeff’s unbelievable Posole/Pozole, which comes around once a year. And then for dinner I had sturgeon, which was light,moist yet flaky, and extremely delicious. For dessert it was the Mexican style cinnamon and spicy chocolate gelato. It was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. Everything was perfection. I always forget how good this place is…... I’ll need to head back again soon.

We made the most of it with dinner at Matt’s. I can’t believe we had not been here before.

My husband and I had been going to Matt’s regularly for romantic meals at the bar, so when we got engaged we knew who we wanted to cater: Matt! The food was great – many of our guests proclaimed it the best wedding spread ever. This place is cozy for a date, yummy and stimulating for lunch, and a great place to take visitors because it feels like my Seattle.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Seattle for 14 years and never been to Matt’s. Wow. Susan and I celebrated our ninth anniversary at Matt’s last night. The fish was incredibly fresh and well-prepared (halibut for me, catfish for Susan.) The view from our table by the window was fantastic. The service was laid back and attentive. In short: this place is perfect. We’ll be back.

Matt’s is one of my wife’s favorite places. We tried to go a few weeks ago but it was closed for a private party and we ended up at Il Bistro instead. Dinner at Il Bistro was excellent btw.

My ex (who’s a foodie) secured a reservation for Thursday night. After hearing so much about this place since the inception of 43 places, I can’t wait to check it out.

I think on Tuesday or Wednesday nights they have Jazz in the evening after 7pm.

Sat by the window, ordered a bottle of wine and the catfish sandwich. It was a nice day. Had a dessert wine too even though it was only lunch. I’ll be going back again… the only bummer is that you have to make reservations in order to get a table, and that requires some forethought… which I don’t tend to have much of.

I went for the first time last month for my office birthday lunch. It was delicious. I am “willing to help” anyone who wants to eat here by going with them. I highly recommend reservations though.

I love Matt’s because it is such a vision of one person’s idea of a great good place. It’s small, the menu is limited, and it pays to plan ahead if you want a seat – but the food is fantastic, the view is great, and I’m always happy when I’m in the market. This is mine and Anne’s “go to” place for more than a decade.
