Hartford

Theyre trying to clean it up. Theres a nice riverwalk area, some lively clubs, concert venues, good food, historical buildings, pretty parks…. but theres also a lot of crime, horrible schools, and some really bad sections. I wouldnt recommend living here, but it wouldnt be that bad for a date or two.

OK, so its a bit of a hokey slogan, but Hartford has a lot to offer! Bushnell park is beautiful year round, and the carosel is fun for all ages. The Bushnell itself is wonderful and the acts that perform there are amazing, ranging in dance, theater and music. There is plenty of sporting action, despite CT’s lack of the major leagues. UCONN Huskies basketball (mens and womens) and the Hartford Wolfpack hockey share the Civic Center Arena. And you can catch the major leagues in most of the bars. The Webster Theater has music, usually at a decent price. There are a great variety of restaurants, Alchemy for healthy smoothies and healing tea, Agave for tequilla, Hot Tomatoes for delicious night out. Give Hartford a chance, the parking price is worth it.

I used to live about a half hour away; in Springfield. It’s nicer than Sprigfield. Close to both Boston and New York City but a not the safest area. Selling points are it’s close to Six Flags and inexpensive housing. Just watch your back.

Okay, that’s not much of a selling point. But Hartford has a good music and arts scene, from what I recall – the Wadsworth Atheneum, the Hartford Symphony, and a whole host of small clubs and bars where you can hear live music. On the outskirts of the city, there’s tons of places of historical interest….

But it’s fine.

While I’m sure it has its endearing qualities, Hartford on a whole is.. well… a hole. I wouldn’t recommend going there unless you absolutely had to.
