Ella Fitzgerald is from here. That’s why I want to come, nothing else.

over 5 years agoI didn’t really care for the place but i made some pretty cool friends there other than that, its nothing special. Yes, busch gardens is nearby and all that stuff but I don’t forsee myself going back unless its to take my kids to visit their father.
Newport News is full of military and civilan pay stinks! You don’t get paid very well at all..even for a Nurse!!
over 7 years agoMay not be much in its own right, but you’ve got Jamestown, Yorktown, Colonial Williamsburgh, Busch Gardens and Virginia Beach in easy striking distance.
over 7 years agoLoved here for 23 years before moving to Ohio
over 7 years agoI have to be honest there’s not a whole lot going on in the NN. My parents still live there and the area at whole (Hampton Roads) is not bad at all. Really, I look forward to going home but that’s partially because I live hundreds of miles away from a non-stagnet body of water…
over 7 years agoIf you’re not stationed here, or have kids and enjoy suburban life, this is not the place. I’m not much of a night person, but I normally drive to norfolk to get minimal entertainment.
over 7 years agoParts were nice, many parts weren’t—but I haven’t been back in a decade…
over 7 years agoMilitary wife far from Newport News but I sure miss my Hampton Roads Virginia
over 7 years agoWhile Newport News is central to Williamsburg, Virginia Beach and Norfolk, there’s really not much to the actual city of Newport News unless you’re into a ton of strip malls.
If you do end up visiting, there are some nice parks and a small historic district (Hilton Village) along Warwick Blvd between J. Clyde Morris Blvd. and Mercury Blvd.
over 7 years agoOther than the mall and museum, I’m not sure that I’d visit as a tourist, but I knew a lot of people who lived there when I lived nearby.
