How this place changed my life
I was born and raised in this little town; it is not so little anymore. Somehow I never realized how much I would miss it, but it will always be home.

Only in this great little town could you still be arrested for… oh i dont know, say performing the pelvic thrust at a roomful of women who paid to see some sausage shakin! But NO. The cops who were there to, i guess, enjoy the show themselves found the male dancers gyratin too sexy and then they got hot and bothered. This bothered these officers a lot, no good ol boy was suppose to feel a tingle in the pants from another guys provacative movements of select body parts. To make this stop they must take the law into their own hands and arrenst the fine men who were only trying to make some lonely ladies happy. i think they moved in on the arrests because they the cops wanted to run their hands over the hotties hard sweaty bods.

For some, this will not be a place to stay, but somewhere to crash for the time it takes to earn a degree. Home to Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian University, this West Texas town has a curious deserted quality (ok, maybe just diminished) in the summer and holiday break months.
Twice a graduate from TTU, I can say that it is a great place for a college experience. Lubbock doesn’t offer a fast-paced uber-urbanized lifestyle, but neither is it backwater Podunk. I’ve lived in faster and slower paced locales and find Lubbock to be suitably middle-of-the-road. If you need a party scene, you can find it with the college kids. If relaxed family life is for you, that can be had, too. I cannot speak to the quality of public school education (K-12) here, as I have no experience on either side of it.
The terrain here is mostly flat, and things grow outward, not up (including foliage, which is mostly shrubby). The dust/dirt factor added to this expanse of sky makes Lubbock great for sunsets and sunrises. Now when I visit places with more trees and tall buildings, I feel a bit claustrophobic and like I’m missing the sky show.
Lubbock is home to Buddy Holly, the Buddy Holly Center, the American Wind Power Museum & Windmill Park(the closest I’ve ever gotten to a wind turbine), Prairie Dog Town, and one of the largest single-story malls in the nation.
Detractors will criticize Lubbock for its policies on sex education in schools, lack of cultural experiences, occasional foul smell (the wind from stockyards, supposedly), and annoying tendency to rain mud. It also has been known to temporarily flood after the briefest of showers because of the flatness vs. the drainage. Those wishing to purchase alcohol (to take home) must visit mini-Vegas “The Strip”—a row of pricy (by city standards) package shops.
The upside of Lubbock is the small-town friendliness to be had in a populous place, availability of free or low-cost music from the local college’s music schools, college atmosphere (without being a nuisance) that keeps things changing and growing, and the non-humid weather.
Like any place, you will encounter what you attract and what you anticipate. Come looking for a place you will feel welcome and enjoy the sprawl, and you will leave happy.

It’s my home. It’s all I knew for 18 years, and it may not be the most beautiful place on earth, but it’s home. Everyone wishes they could go home again, and that’s really what it comes down to. I want to feel the way I felt when I was 17 again. I want to be at a high school football game one more time so that I could maybe take it all in and remember everything about it. The way everything felt, looked, smelled, tasted. Oh, and West Texas has the most beautiful sunsets in the world!

I was born here, so I didn’t have a choice. The only thing in the town is Tech – and it’s not even that great. This is a dry county, also. Nothin’ to do, nothin’ to see.
