I lived in Madison, Wisconsin for a summer. My family used to move a lot and we never stayed in one place for too long. I don’t remember exactly how old I was, but I made lot of friends and was sad that I couldn’t start school there. Oh, yeah, and there are a ridiculous amount of public swimming pools there. That’s all I remember.

I’ve lived in “MadCity” for 5 years now. Whatever your take, there’s a few things to expect from Madison. First off, the fall seems like it lasts only 3 weeks every year. The winter season starts early and stays late. Temps can dip into the neg. teens. Summers are beautiful and if you’re coming to visit, then grab a bike and take a ride around the lake. The lakes are beautiful but not as clean as one would like. There’s a ton of different restaurants in the town, for all you foodies out there. State Street’s charming when the college students aren’t acting up at night. While there, check out Ian’s Pizza. Gourmet slices and they close late at night. All the “new money” is on the west side of town. Madison’s a very liberal town, and even more so downtown. The gay/lesbian scene is obvious and prominent in this city. Anti-Bush/Cheney bumper stickers are demonstrated in abundance. Hippies and hemp items, hookahs and falafels. Madtown’s got some quirkiness to it no doubt. Apparently there’s some legislation that no building should stand higher than the Capitol. In this town the Capitol is such a reverred icon that it borders on idolatry. Turn on the local news every morning and you’ll see a live shot of the Capitol as they head into intermission every single time. EVERY single day. Nevertheless, I still think you should give this town a visit especially during the summer. Jobwise, if you don’t have a degree you’ll likely have a hard time getting a decent job. But even if you do have a degree, you’ll still run the risk of being underemployed. Not to say you positively can’t get a higher paying job. You just need to be in the right line of work at the right time.

I recently took a trip out to Madison to visit some family friends. One thing that impressed me about the city is the wide variety and quality of restaurants available. In the few days we spent here, we ate at some really good restaurants and there were many others we didn’t get a chance to try on this trip. We at at Bunky’s Cafe (really good falafel), Tutto Pasta, and Dobhan and each was delicious. It was almost disappointing to be so full after this so we couldn’t try others!

lots of the benefits of a larger city without being too big..
Madison has 200,000 people in the city, and 200,000 in the immediate area. The capital sits between two lakes. A great city.

‘Cause my sister started to live there with her husband. By the way, if nothing intervenes, I will go there the forthcoming week :) and I’ll write my opinions about the city when I come back. Besides, I would appreciate your offerings about “things to do in the city” :)
