Jersey City

Check out Colgate Center! Very commuter-frequented, but it’s a fun day…hour, rather…trip from World Financial Center by ferry. Not much to do but take a pic in front of the Colgate Center sign, but it’s fun for the short $4 ferry ride.

But it’s fine if you live there.

Chilltown is definitly on the rise.. cool bars and restaurants, and a growing artistic population. There are certain neighborhoods that tourists should probably avoid, but that’s in any city..

Jersey City, except for the liberty island, is pure ghetto.

Sure, you might get mugged unless youre by newport or in the heights. Sure homicide is at its highest since 1995. But you know what? I FUCKING LOVE JERSEY CITY! The dank air. The “bootleg new york” feeling when youre by the path station or the weed off Ocean Ave. Jersey city is the place to be for anyone. And on top of it all, its 5 minutes from manhattan, and cheaper rent too!

avoid jersey city like the plague. trust me. it is terrifying.

Downtown JC is a very upcoming area with a huge artist community and really cool places to hang out. It’s getting more gentrified though, driving real estate prices up. I love the cultural diversity and the “small town feeling”, but I also enjoy having the “big city” so close by. Other parts of Jersey City are quite different in many ways, and I’d encourage everyone to explore beyong the “cool” areas and discover JC hidden treasures as well.

I’ve lived in Jersey City for 22 years and can say that its a great place to live and visit. Yes, like any big city it has some bad areas but the vibrant communities springing up all over Downtown are great.
