Buffalo and Wings

Me and my college friends took a road trip over a weekend to Buffalo back in September for the sole purpose of getting the original buffalo wings (at the Anchor Bar)... there were 4 of us and we ordered 100…

It was glorious.

How this place changed my life

I was born and raised in WNY; lived in Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, and Chicago and I can say that my only regret was not coming back here sooner. After almost fifteen years away, all I heard were negative comments from people who had NEVER BEEN HERE! I love it! This region’s bad reputation is because of people who have never been here to experience all that this region has to offer.

My heartfelt thanks to those who have cast the pall of a has-been region on my hometown. Thanks? Yes! I love a twenty minute commute, easy convenient shopping, proximity to so many things to do, and especially for the die-hard, down on their luck individuals who call WNY home. It certainly takes a special kind of person to live here and to prosper, which it is so easy to do…given the jobs available to those educated individuals and a very low cost of living, I live like a king on half of what I made “just getting by” in Chicago.

All of you naysayers, KEEP IT UP! That means more WNY for fewer people to enjoy; keep your crowds, your high prices, your rude attitudes, and especially your pretentiousness in your city. We have none of that here in Wonderful Western New York!

A review of this place: Good ol' Buff

Buffalo is a highly recommended city to visit in the western portion of New York state. The people there are some of the nicest, most laid-back people I’ve ever met. Home to Ani DiFranco and Johnny Resnick of The Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo is somewhat underrated…many just regard it as the city you drive through on the way to Niagara Falls. The nightlife is quite happening due to the college scene of Buff State and other colleges…and the bars stay open til 4 a.m.! Buffalo has more of a Midwestern feel to me. Check out The Albright-Knox Art Museum and the Elmwood Arts District when visiting.

Spent time in the downtown area. There are some great old buildings that are just amazing.

A tip I have about this place

They have great shopping at the Outlet Malls! And with the price of Canada’s Loonie being so high prices should be even cheaper! I have always come here for the great deals!

The first time I went to this place

Authentic rust belt town. Not pretentious but with tons of chararcter and art. Incredible abandonned train station. Equally incredible community minded people trying to keep the architectural gem. Inexpensive. Id move if I could find a job there and I did not like the one I have here.

Isnt much to see

There isnt much to see.. Just a seedy lil town. Always gotten mixed up at the traffic lights etc. they have a run down casino and a bunch of hotels. Niagara across the border on the other hand is wicked! loads of fun!

well a silver lining is the falls. What little they have.. they’ve done a good job with it.

Unforntunately… one of the closest cities i need to head before i drive into the US.

buffalo has its charms, but i doubt i’d ever want to spend and extended period of time there. good things: the skyway is cool, bars are open til 4, albright knox gallery, close to canada, easy beach (albeit lakey beach) access, elmwood. bad things: awful weather in the winter, the drive west on 5 as you leave the city is rather depressing (lots of closed steel mills, and other run-down spots), the city is kind of deserted at times.
