there’s no place like it. hope to be back for mardi gras 2010!

I’m originally from there and I love my city. There’s no place like it anywhere. I moved away after hurricane Katrina and got such a good job in Los Angeles that I probably won’t be moving back any time soon but I visit as often as I can. Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest are the 2 best times to visit but Burbon St. is fun any night of the week. Decataur also has some great bars but if you want the local hangouts go to Frnchman st. or Magazine st. I recommend the Maple Bar on Magazine as well as Jaquamos for some of the best food you’ll ever have.

a fun atmosphere.

It was much like I’d imagined it’d be, only you don’t get the whole feeling until you’re actually there. I only spent a few days there checking out Lafayette Cemetery much of the French Quarter and surrounding areas. Stayed near Magazine and definitely experienced some characters..I’ll be back!

New Orleans is a wonderful place to visit but I certainly wouldn’t want to live there. Brennan’s and Commander’s Palace are two landmark restaraunts that must be experienced – reserve breakfast at Brennan’s well in advance. Bourbon Street is fun for awhile, as is Pat O’Brien’s, but for a real treat head down Bourbon a bit further to Jean Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop (built pre-1772), with its lively piano bar.

Trip is planned for February – I’ll be running the marathon there!

I wouldn’t go again, but I’m glad I went once. The French Quarter is sleazy and frightening, full of “barely legal” strip joints and the streets are paved with drunks. There’s some good jazz to be heard if you search a little. A ride on a street car is essential. Don’t go into the French quarter after dark.

Although I’ve never been during Mardi Gras (I hate crowds) I recommend staying in the heart of New Orleans for the best restaurants and sights. Next time I’d like to see the aquarium.

This is the first time I’ve been there. I can’t wait to go back!
