We stopped here with a cruise. I was told to hit “old town” as well as the “gold district”. Old town was so worth it. Wonderful architecture markets & more authentic food.

The first time I went to this place

The local shopkeepers all wanted to improve their English and sell more to the tourists, so they refused to speak to us in Spanish. For those who don’t have to work there, it’s easy to find a party every night. But we didn’t really find a place to visit that reflected the intense cultural history of Mexico, just a spring break-type party city. The contrast between thriving tourist areas and slums is all too sharp and heartbreaking.

PS: The golf-cart-like taxis? They’re called “pool-mon-ee-ahs” not “pool-moan-yahs”

Why I recommend this place to visitors

This place is wanderful, they have very nice hotels, pepole are great to chat with , nice to take long walks along the beach, or you can take boat rides. they have very reasonal prices for everything, the food is out of this world great. If I could I would live here. The waves at night will relax you and even in the day time if you like can take a siesta and the waves will rock you to sleep so to speak. lovely place.

Annoying street vendors

I have traveled extensively and never have been so hounded by street vendors. I couldn’t walk 10 paces without someone sticking something in my face and some of them even followed me down the street. VERY annoying & made it impossible to enjoy the sights.

A tip I have about this place

Using pesos is easier…although many places will accept USD, there are better deals when using pesos especially when using transportation…also banks are few and far between so getting money while there can prove to be inconvenient sometimes…

Open bed trucks...who would have thought...

Traveling around in open bed trucks was the most unexpected thing that I experienced (well besides there being a whole mess of flies everywhere) while traveling Mazatlan…it was quite fun actually and something that you must experience when traveling in Mazatlan!!

I went in the 6th grade with my family.
I think, now that I’m 23 and have a significant other to spend time with, I should go back and experience it again.

A review of this place: I love it here!

Mazatlan is both a beach resort community and a Mexican city. After a few days in the sun at the Golden Zone, make sure you venture downtown to the city market.
