Santo Domingo

there’s lot of poverty in the caribbean, to be sure, but santo domingo was very depressing - lots of very little children in the streets when i was there about 8 years ago, lots of haitians who are treated very badly, and still a lot of obvious fallout of the repressive governments that have dotted its past. i know that the resorts on the north end of the island are supposed to be beautiful - i met many europeans who travelled there and loved them, but my time in the urban impoverished areas of santo domingo broke my heart.
