A rumor about this place

Winnipeg seems to be a place with multi-floor restaurants.

Worth visiting!

My friend's family is from Winnipeg.

I’ve been to a bar mitzvah and a funeral in Winnipeg. I’m thankful that Winnipeg has nurtured so many people that I love.

The last time I went to this place

Well let’s see. Last time I went there (I live an hour away and go there about once a month or so to shop) I went to the St.Vital mall while Q94 FM and Bob FM were in the food court to raise toys for less fortunate children for christmas. I ate at Mrs. Vanelli’s (which was delicious) and I bought a suitcase for 5$ at the Bentley’s.

You never know who you'll meet

So. I was out for a walk in Winnipeg my first night in town, or that’s what I thought was going to happen. Before I had gotten more than two blocks from the hotel, some merry revelers spotted me and my Stormy Kromer hat. They decided for me that I needed to go out drinking with them, which was a good plan.

We had a blast getting to know each other. I learned lots about Canada and made some new friends. Winnipeg is great.

A review of this place: A real city

Winnipeg has a real advantage among prairie cities as it really is an urban city. It grew rapidly early on, and became the social and economic centre of the prairies and the west around the turn of the century – the Calgary of the early 20th century.

As a result its character is defined by its central urban areas rather than by its suburban growth. For the visitor, this means lots to see and experience: neighbourhoods such as the Exchange district, a lively cultural scene, lots of history to explore, etc.

It hasn’t quite figured this out about itself yet, though. The city tends to think of itself as the lowliest city in Canada, and its residents display a uniquely disparaging attitude towards their hometown. So give Winnipeg a visit and tell a local why you enjoyed it – you might give them a fresh perspective.

How this place changed my life

This is the place that started me out as an adventurer. I went there in ‘97. I secretly packed didn’t tell anyone I was going and had a wonderful 10 days there. All the people I met were great. That’s why they call it ” Friendly Manitoba”.

The last time I went to this place

I was in 5th grade. We went to Winnepeg for a field trip. I don’t remember much about it except for sleeping in a school auditorium in my sleeping bag.

The first time I went to this place

Arriving late on July 25th, and leaving on July 26th, we only got to see a little of the downtown area, but it was clearly a nice and artsy place with a lot of emphasis on the performing arts. There’s a lot more I could write about this, but I just wanted to write something before I forgot to write anything.

It's always great fun...
