Cagayan de Oro

This is my home!!!

Of course i love this city. It’s my home! Cagayan is making it’s mark for it’s white water rafting adventure. It’s actually called the ADVENTURE CAPITAL OF THE PHILIPPINES. There’s so much to do here. Food is good. People are friendly (City of Golden Friendship). You’re gonna love it here.

The last time I went to this place

the last time i went to this place was before i came to cebu for work…cagayan de oro is a place for bulwa (correct spelling? those earthen/ceramic kitchen things i’d like to buy someday), the 1st bigby’s (i just love their food!), and they really cook good pork liempo (uh, i think that would have to be The Barn)...

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Hey! I’ve been here, and I highly recommend this place to everybody who wants a laid-back atmosphere…

Try going to the Gardens of Malasag or the Makahambus Cave and you will be thrilled!

I suggest swimming in Duca Bay and go water rafting in some of the rivers…

Good luck!

A review of this place: white water rafting!:)

i absolutely looooved the experience.:) its breathtaking rapids ( 14 rapids all in all ) and the roar of the water cascading over the rocks and boulders are just some of the scenes that will forever leave an indelible mark in my memory.:) to say it in our local parlance for cool, “ASTIG”. Ü

A tip I have about this place

When going to Cagayan de Oro City, expect a small developing city. People are still laid back and has a provincial atmosphere. Tricycles or locally called Motorelas still ply within the city center. Cagayan de Oro lost all of its old Spanish buildings (including the old San Agustin Church built in 1845) during World War II. The entire town was bombarded by the Americans to flush out the entrenched Japanese soldiers. For more information/tips about Cagayan de Oro City, visit my website at

The first time I went to this place

I met my fiancee here. The people are extremely friendly although there is a heightened security alert. Don’t be surprised of a car inspection or that there are metal detectors in every store and armed guards. They smile and talk as they do their job.

Be warned that the people are very poor and the taxi drivers will take advantage of you. Also, if someone lends a helping hand, don’t take it. They expect renumeration for their “service”.

The shop owners, hotel management, restaurant people, and security guards are the most friendly and helpful in all the places I’ve ever been.

One in particular was standing outside my hotel as I went to pay the taxi driver. I asked “How much?” and he quoted 300 pisos. The guard came up and asked him, “How much?” and the driver replied, “100 pisos”. I asked the guard how much should I tip him? He said, “Whatever you think.” I didn’t give him much because he did try to rip me off. Normally, I tip generously there. I thanked the guard and proceeded back to my room.

It is hot and humid there also. In the middle of February, about 5:30am, the pilot gave the temperature as 77F. The humidity was extreme although I don’t know how much. By mid day I’m sure it was well into the nineties. Pack a lot of sunscreen, you’ll need it.

Anyway, I enjoyed it and am heading back this summer. :)
