A review of this place
It’s a nice place, just not worth travelling there specially to visit. Drop by if you happen to be South Korea, but otherwise, don’t bother.

I went last summer at a less busy time (early June). Some of the roadside attractions can be cheesy, but the whole island is gorgeous! I especially loved the old nutmeg forest (I don’t remember the name). There’s also alot of caves to go hiking through. I agree with the previous posts, the people are more reserved but they do cater well to tourists.

You must have many, many, tangerines.
People are not as friendly as in the mainland, but they know how to cater to visitors.
Take several days to enjoy it.

If you don’t speak Korean, it’s best that you plan a bit ahead with a Korean friend or know ahead of time—nothing is catered to people who speak English. I arrived at the Jeju airport, thinking that there’d be SOMETHING that I could arrange through the Jeju tourist board but there was nothing. I was lucky enough to have a few korean tourists on the tour that i took that could speak a little English!

I chilled at the beach for 8 hours straight and got a sun stroke. I passed out the next day and my skin was just burnt to the crisp. However, it was soo much fun!!! Def worth all the pain haha

I spent two weeks training to rappel the summer of 1979. This place was too cool. During our days off we walked and hitchhiked around the island. Great waterfalls and neat snake caves (caves resulting from volcanic flows I think). Hot as the dickens that summer but was a blast for a 19 year old. Remember the roads being paved with asphalt by hand by women who looked to be in their 60’s and 70’s. I have some great photos that I will have to locate, scan and upload to give people a look at the island nearly 30 years ago. Enjoyed my year in Korea in most respects but hated the time on the DMZ. Tough times back then, especially when their president got murdered by their CIA chief. Thought the North Koreans were coming down and was scared…. Great people though, good food, hardworking and still lived with lots of tradition. Gatortrapper, July 2006

there are so many things to do and see!!
i dont believe anyone with any sense of adventure could not fall in love with the place!
there are beautiful beaches.
tons of waterfalls. esp if you are about getting off the beaten track and doing some off road adventures!
theme parks.
climb the highest mountain in korea. or any of the many oreums (mini mountain) around the island.
amazing scuba diving/snorkelling. various watersports.
markets.
and the list goes on and on.
when you get to the airport go to the visitor info booth and ask specifically for english materials.
they have the best books behind the counter. i reference my free books and maps that i received from the airport often!

I still can’t believe I lived in Korea for an entire year (courtesy of the U.S. Army) and never made it here. If/when I ever go back, I’m definitely going.
