great golf courses – some of the best around. anything else? nope

I lived here for 18 months. Largely industrial & polluted, it is the prostitution centre of the region. Friday night ferries from Singapore are full of Singaporean men with golf bags taking advantage of the cheaper rates than the outrageous price for a game in Sing, who will more often than not take advantage of the tens of thousands of girls working on the island.

It is a frontier city, largely unpleasant – even the Indonesians living there do not like it. But it has jobs and a booming economy, so they stay.

There are some quite beatiful parts of the island, largely at Nongsa in the North where there are a handful of pleasant resorts. If you stay at one, ask for a taxi to a seafood restaurant that isn’t part of the resort for lunch . If you get the right one, it can be a magnificant experience of life in and around a local village…

quite a nice place, if it just to buy cheap electronics.. hehe..
but it’s difficult to get vegetables (so expensive) and clean water..

kinda depends… well decorated villas and suites. however, lots of mosquitoes at nite. i was stung thru out the nite. luckily its a one-nite stay.

Batam that I saw, was a developing area which covered by the thick terracota soil, everywhere. I was 10 and went to visit singapore by crossing via ferry. I took a lychee can juice to freshen my excitement. All entertainment show in TV were speaking chinese. I set my view to the wavy melacca strait. Quite a nostalgic moment.
