Jakarta

i went to jakarta mid this year with a couple of friends. it was wow. yeah. the traffic is impossible but we had so much fun there. i miss aksara. owh yeah, we even got to go to the rolling stones jakarta! ngeeeeeeeeeee…i miss roti bakar eddy. and em pisang bakar. oowhhhhh!!

Went to Jakarta in 2005. The city is huge, 4 times KL. Shopping was good. Didnt like the food tho’.

I’m Indonesian and Jakarta residents. The street is the worse point of Jakarta. Not only the traffic jam but also the attitude of most drivers.

This happened a few days ago when I was driving:
A small ugly red car cut my lane so close that I was so suprised close to having a heart attack. The driver stopped the car a few meters in front of my car. When I asked to the driver, “Do you have any problem with your car?”. The driver puked at my car and runned away. I never seen this guy before in my life so the reason he did that was still a big mystery. I think he was DRUNK.

So beware of Jakarta streets, it’s full of CRAZY people…

Jakarta temperature is too hot for me who live in Bandung. I usualy came to Jakarta for work/project.

as a tourist you wouldn’t wanna be here. It an oversized overpopulated overcrowded city. But since i’m indonesian, and my friends and relatives are in jakarta, i love the city. Great food too, for me.

I went here in 95 so I guess it’s changed alot since then, but it’s heart is probably the same.

Jakarta is a crazy, intense place, like any big city in Asia and the World in general. So it’s got traffic, smog, crime, etc. etc., but it is also a place to adventure, to see things you won’t see anywhere else in the world, to eat good food (though they seem to be getting more and more fast food which tastes like cardboard compared to Indonesian food).

It has a thriving student and art counter-culture too.

But make sure if you do go here that you get outside the city, see the rest of Java and Indonesia.

anyone who’s been around the world seeing other countries would obviously see that this is not the place to be in.
you know why? cos the government sucks. and yes, that’s the one which started it all.
well one of the good things is when foreigners see this place, they can be more thankful for what they have in their country…
haha, that’s exactly how all my american buddies reacted when i told em abt my hometown ;)

2b honest, jkt is not a nice city. jkt has all things bad in it; bad traffic, bad city planning, bad polution, bad government, and bad crime (especially for chinese people). but what else i could say? i live here. my family is here. home is always the best place to stay. hope it’s gonna be better.

Jakarta is an easy place to start in Indonesia if you want to travel through Java. I highly reccommend getting out of the city and exploring other areas though. Bogor is a nice city alterantive to Jakarta.
