Shenzhen aka: 深圳

I spent the past year teaching English in Shenzhen. It is a nice city because it’s very comfortable, there are many foreigners, and the Chinese people are from all over the country. there is very little history because it’s a brand new city, and it’s all about money and looks.

I work here

I have friends in Shenzhen and had the opportunity to go and visit them this week. I have to admit that this was my second time to Shenzhen. I was there three months ago but I didn’t really feel like I could say that I’d been there because I didn’t have any time to explore the city. I definately got to know the city better this time. My friends live in Bai Shi Zhou, which is a little far away from downtown but nice and close to all the tourist spots like Happy Valley, Window of the World and Splendid China. Happy Valley was fun and had some good rides although it was packed with summer tourists. I also liked visiting the port area of shekou. There are loads of restaurants and bars within this area and it’s especially pretty at night. We spent a lot of time shopping around Lao Jie. There was loads to see and do; you could find everything from knock-off designer goods and watches to inexpensive Chinese goods. Bargaining was half the fun and we picked up tons of current DVD’s as well. I look forward to going back, especially for the shopping as it was much cheaper than Hong Kong and Taiwan. Shenzhen is a beautiful city with lots of trees, and the weather was awesome every day.

i have not been to shen zhen for a long time.
but this year,
i went to there with my friends.

there was so many changes in the past ten years.

i remember when i was ten years old,
shen zhen’s people usually spoke in cantonese,
but now,
it was changed,
they usually speak in putonghua in the public area.

best shopping i’ve had in china (cheaper than hongkong!). i hear the goods in hongkong are from shenzhen. :P

i wanted to fulfill a promise to a friend…stayed here for 7 days…i had a great time. i did not go to the usual tourist spots but went up, down left and right! I will never forget my 20 RMB foot massage that’s worth a thousand bucks…70 minutes of bliss….

surely worth going just to experience how much you love Hongkong. It’s an odd place. As far from nice as can be…

Had bad experience here….:(

We were here on tour. I didnt like that our tour guides took our pictures and forced us to buy them. When we didnt want to pay for the pictures they took, they got mad.
Theres nothing so special about this place and the impression we got from the people wasnt good either. We didnt feel safe or welcome here. I will never go back to this place again!!
