I traveled here for a work conference. It is a beautiful city. It is a nice train trip from London and it was great to get out of the crazy big city. The York Minster is enormous and amazing. The city center is quaint and charming.

Wander through The Shambles, stroll along the medieval city walls and visit York Minster, the second largest Gothic cathedral in Europe. And when you get tired, enjoy some tea and cake at the York branch of Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms.

York was the second city of England in medieval times and it could be regarded as Capital of the North until the industrial revolution. In terms of places worth seeing, it should still be regarded as Capital of the North!

I went here purely on a whim. I woke up on a Sunday in London and thought, “Fuck this, I’m going to get away. Where to? York sounds nice…” And so it was.
This place is a beautiful mix of old and college town. The wall that runs through the town is beautiful [if not annoyingly populated], the cemetery on Cemetery Road is gorgeous, and the B&B’s are plentiful. Cobblestone streets, brick and stone everywhere… it’s all so beautiful and perfect.
This picture is in the Gardens. I don’t remember what Gardens, but they were some major Gardens [near the art museum].

I am a ‘Freeman of the city of York’ a title that my ancestors passed on to me which they received for services to the city. I have lived in York and it ‘ouses’ history like no other English city, after 30 years I still love walking the old streets and looking at the different styles of buildings. www.york360.co.uk has some great photos to plan your visit to York!

I LOVE York!! I have to go back. It was so sunny and nice when I was there. And the shops were adorable. I just felt so submerged in British culture when I was there. I am going to go there again and stay for a while, if I can.
