Huddersfield

I didn’t exactly go to visit Huddersfield. I was aiming at Meltham Village. The train stopped in Huddersfield. From what I saw, Huddersfield is a nice town. I really enjoyed the moors.

My home town. Left when I was 18. There was a reason for that.

IMHO it’s a tragic place…
1) I have never seen so many sound buildings boarded up and abandoned.
2) The people are basically poor, uneducated, alcoholics, etc. Just about everybody smokes. Lots of people are out of work. Many obese people. Young women all seem to be pushing prams.
3) This is suposed to be multicultural but from what I see people don’t mix much. The Asian community are pretty entrenched and if you go into a pub you will really never see Asian people, which I think is a shame.
4) There is so much industry it really feels congested, traffic is bad, litter everywhere…

There must be something good about the place I hear you say… Well it is very cheap to live and shop here. There are two markets in town, both very good – in fact I have never seen red fish like tilapia at such cheap prices. Transport-wise it is good with decent links to lots of better places like Leeds, Bradford, + Manchester. There are some nice buildings like the railway station. Oh and I have seen some fit women too. So it’s not all bad.

Was for my University open day. With any luck I’ll be going there daily from September.

Rumour has it that the lion on Lion Chambers is in fact real, but very lazy.

I live in halifax – a neighbouring town and i regularly go to huddersfield shopping etc. its really good for shopping, bars, eating and historical stuff etc.
