i love it
i suppose i should, it’s where i call ‘home’
living next to Roundhay park was great – free concerts from madonna, michael jackson, genesis just by sitting outside in our back garden.
sunny days in leeds are the best – everyone chills out, smiles, and sits in beer gardens.

My English Hometown

I left Indonesia to study in Leeds 2 years ago. The city was perfect for me, not too big and not too small. Plenty of places to hang out with friends and a lot of interesting things to see. A great city to meet people from all around the world as there are many who come to study. I unfortunately had to move from Leeds to work and I’ve been all around England, yet the city remains to be my English hometown.

Snorting Wine and Flying Kites

Visited a friend in October 2003. We took a train to a party in Hebdon Bridge where we got sauced and played musical papers. We played some other game, the rules of which are as hazy now as they no doubt where then, where I wound up snorting a capful of wine up my nose (not recommended for this location or any other).

Back in Leeds, I slept on the floor with my friend’s pet rat and we tried to make a kite out of a bin bag.

Somewhere in there I tried to stab someone with a pen. I must have been drinking wine, and not just snorting it. Drinking wine always seems to make me try to teach people how to knife-fight.

Leeds Festival 2002: The year of the infamous riots

I’ve finally gotten around to typing out my journal from Leeds 2002

An amazing experience, tons of great bands played… I’m still impressed with who I saw even looking back on it today. I met a couple of really cool Welsh girls who helped me a lot when I’d arrived with too much luggage and forgotten my tent poles. I was very lucky to have run into them. As I mentioned in the title, there were riots that included people setting toilets on fire with police helicopters flying around at night. It was very “Apocalypse Now.” Here’s that unforgettable line-up:

Leeds Festival – Friday 23 August until Sunday 25 August 2002

Aug. 23:
Main Stage: Guns ‘N Roses, Prodigy, Puddle of Mudd
Radio 1 Evening Session Stage: Spiritualized, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of the Dead, Cornershop, Haven, Six by Seven, The Shining
Carling Stage: Biffy Clyro

Aug. 24
Main Stage: The Strokes, Pulp, The White Stripes, Dandy Warhols
Radio 1 Evening Session Stage: Feeder, The Electric Soft Parade,
Guided By Voices
The Boutique Stage: Ladytron, Dot Allison
Carling Stage: British Sea Power

Aug. 25:
Main Stage: Foo Fighters, Muse, Ash, The Hives, A, Less Than Jake, Andrew WK
Radio 1 Evening Session Stage: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Cooper Temple Clause
