Edinburgh

Good shopping, terrific castles & churches, the best B&B we stayed at in the whole trip.

Edinburgh is a neat city, just avoid the insane tourist traps. There are some lovely places – Calton Hill, the top of the Museum of Scotland, and some really nice outlying spots in the surrounding villages.

I finally went back to visit (its been about 15 years since my last visit) and I must tell you things have changed. It has really turned into just another big city catering to tourists. It doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy it. I have really come to enjoy the countryside much more. My suggestion is to bypass the big cities and find the small ones for more of the true culture. Its worth seeing Edinburgh once.

I’m a student planning on going with three friends who are all at uni now.

We’d like to know if there’s anywhere that’s cheap and good to eat (Preferably, where you can pay less than £10 for a meal).

A beautiful place. It’s also arty, classy and full of culture, but pricey.

I found Edinburgh overdone; from the ancient, slightly uninteresting castle to the overly-ornate frontices of all the buildings (it’s bizarre seeing a dollar store with prime stonework on the front.) There’s not much to do there unless you’re into walking or seeing very old things, everything closes at 6PM, and the only thing to do after that seemed to be pub culture. I found the people aloof and slightly rude, and suffering from the slight arrogance that people who live in capital cities seem to possess. This city is not a good introduction to Scottish culture, and I really don’t recommend it be your first destination if you visit that country. There are some nice places around Edinburgh, but you have to look for them.

I had a great memory in Edinburgh. This trip made myself familiar with the guy who come from Romania. We have kept in touch.

i lived in edinburgh for 2 years. it is the most amazing city in the UK (for anyone who thinks london is better…PAH!)
