kind of a nasty place. in five days here I saw a huge brawl at a food court between 50 to 60 teen age kids, a group of hooligans chanting nasty things together, drunken young adults puking in the streets in mass on friday night, scantily glad gross girls in the streets and people using manchester as their personal bathroom a few times. yah…. I mean, I’ve been to boston, paris, NY and many other big cities, but they have a little more class. this place is nasty. please tell me there are places worth checking out. liverpool was at least pretty cool and had some culture but this place is just a trendy soulless grey city.

There’s a drink in this wonderful city called “the blob”. I insist all travelers try it.

Duh, I can’t believe I’ve neglected to list Manchester as a place I want to visit, until now. I’ll be there in two and a half weeks, and I’ve never looked forward to anything so much.
I’ll be going there to watch the football, of course! No, really, I have a much better reason to be there.

For some reason the idiot British media had been going on about how Manchester was the place to be etc (because they produced some rock bands and redeveloped some areas).
So being at a lose end and generally a curious sort of chap I duly made my way up to Manchester Picadilly…and what do i find?
There’s nothing much going on here!
The Victorian area is quite small, thought it has grand buildings. The Art gallery is good-ish, but not worth a specific visit. The Lowry collection in Salford is interesting, but the area around it is extremely despiriting. Their Imperial War Museum is ok, but really designed for children.I went over to Canal Street to hang out with the homosexuals (though I am not even gay: I was so bored) but it was so quiet there (Manchester’s answer to Soho, my foot!) thatt I traipsed accross town to one of the few cinemas to get a ticket for The Passion of the Christ (forced by boredeoom to watch a film I knew I would dislike just to kill time before I could respectably go to bed). I hung out in Watersone’s bookstore for a while, waiting for the film to start.
Waterstone’s seemed like the liveliest place in Manchester.
The trams are also good.

Hello kind folks! I am coming here in early January! Let me start by saying that I really want to back pack through europe! Jan. 14 2007 is a day I may start that dream. I go to france to see my gf right after xmas, than to england with her on jan. 8. Technically, my plane leaves jan. 14, but I have been thinking..maybe I just travel europe instead of going back home. I have a plane ticket from manchester to paris, which would than return me to the states. instead of going from paris to boston, I was thinking of starting my trip in manchester..or fly to paris and start there..I am an American who deeply wants to explore the various cultures within europe. I am looking to make connections because I really want to back pack throughout europe. if anyone has tips or any kind of help please please get in touch. I might start this on jan. 14 with the bare essentials..30 pounds if I am lucky..few articles of clothing, music, a little money and my wits! I would love to network with americans with a similar dream and europeans all around!

Don’t remember much apart from being squashed on a tram by Newcastle United fans, I was scared shitless as I was only a wee boy!
