Santiago De Compostela aka: Santiago de Compostella

It’s an interesting feeling to be standing in the presence of the reliquary of one of the original apostles.

if you walk to camino, go beyond santiago, all the way to finisterra (end of the earth)

While on a student visa, I travelled by bus from Gijon, Asturias to Santiago de Compostela, where I visited the Cathedral, some of the old city, and a Franciscan monastery.

the church is awesome and when they swing that huge incenscer, watch out!

In 1998 I decided to go on a cycling trip in Portugal and Spain. Initially I started with Santiago de Compostela as a final destination, going on some information from a tour I read about. My plans mutated and changed, Visited many other places both countries in the in six weeks of riding around, but I couldn’t get there.

This is my second favorite Spanish city. Barcelona is my first. Incredible cathedral, friendly people, and pretty good restaurants. I didn’t try it, but I did see the cauldrons of “Pulpo Gallego” or Galician octopus. I’m not an adventurous eater, so most of Spain was a real culinary challenge (also, I don’t eat beef, poultry, or pork!) The seafood in Galicia, along with decent bread and cheese, was a real comfort after a couple of weeks of surviving on pizza, hummus, and beer in Asturias and Cantabria.
