Maastricht

A cross-polination of French-Belgium-Holland and a bit of Germany… great place to chill (everything is slow and quaint).

....was almost a year ago now, I’ve lived there all my life not realising how happy I was. I always wanted to go away be somewhere else somewhere more exciting. But now i am in London (a lot more exciting) I kind of miss it…

I havent lived there since the early 90s but it was the best 4 years of my life. It could rain yet It always felt as though the sun was shining. The residents were fun, helpful, kind. Never a dull moment. It is a small attainable city that you can take a hold of and make your own.

I spent the most memorable 7 months of my life in Maastricht! I was then involved in a student exchange program for a semester there. It is really a very beautiful little town, with all the shops and famous Olivier Bonbons chocolate shop!!! I used to go there for my weekly supply of pralines. Yummy.

This is also the place where I meet such wonderful people who have always been helping exchange students to get around the city and also Europe. They’re so friendly, the mother is a GREAT cook and that’s how I got hooked on the gulash dish.

From weekend visits to nearby belgium, antique markets, parades, the famous carnaval, maastricht universiteit, my dutch language class, the famous friet shop round the street corner, the maas river, to all the people I met there… Everything is so wonderful!

I’ll definitely be back sometime in the future!

Nice town to just chill out in and relax. Just make sure that your car is parked some place safe and secure. This town, like any town in Hollan, is just too close to Amsterdam! ...or is that their liberal drug policy that creates the high crime rates, particularly on vehicles with out of country license plates?

Maastricht is a very cool little town, which like everywhere else in Holland is powered by the awesome BICYCLE. I love Maastricht – it’s a place with cool shopping, and best of all… YOU CAN CYCLE TO BELGIUM!

If you want to relax from the busy life in Amsterdam, come to Maastricht!Shop till u drop, or enjoy verse luike wafels in one of the loveley street cafes!
