Chocolates!

We popped into a shop to buy some Perugina chocolates, since this is their home town. The one which we knew best is called “Baci” which means “kiss” in Italian. This gave the cheeky shop assistant the perfect excuse to keep on blowing kisses at my friend under the pretence that that was what she was requesting :)

A German friend of mine married his Italian wife in Perugia. It turned out to be a real picture book ceremony. After the church we went to party on a Castello, overseeing Assisi. Great!!!

However, we were lodged in the medieval town center. And parking in Perugia is an absolute nightmare. Leave your car and walk, that is so much easier and you get to see even more…

I stayed here for about a week with a host family and it was wonderful. The town is big enough to have a great nightlife and shopping. The fountain in the main square in the old part of the city is great for photo ops and hanging out. It has its own brand of chocolate which is amazing and isn’t too far outside of Rome.

Perugia is the sister city of Grand Rapids, MI which is near my hometown. I was fortunate enough to visit with a group of students, where we got to meet the mayor. It is a gorgeous little town and I would love to go back!

Spent a summer here...

I spent the summer of ‘93 in Perugia, studying Italian at the Universita per Stranieri (University for Foreigners). It’s a beautiful place, with a wonderful old (Etruscan) town center and lots of twisty (and steep!) roads.

Managed to visit during the most decadent weekend possible. Ever had chocolate pasta? You will in Perugia. Unbelievable town for foodies, and beautiful year round.
