Worth visiting!

The last time I went to this place

Took a side trip from Firenze to Pisa. Must say, that I was happy that I went, glad that the trains run regularly otherwise there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot (other than loads of stalls full of souvenirs) for this place to offer.

It’s one of those places that you’re glad that you got a chance to see while you were in the area, but definately not worth seeing if that’s the ONLY thing you wanna see/do.

Once is Enough.

Worth visiting for The Leaning Tower alone, it is the generally accepted that there is little else to see in Pisa..

However, if you’ve read the Divine Comedy (Dante), there’s also the Palace of the Orologio, where Count Ugolino della Gherardesca was imprisoned and condemned to death.. and that’s worth a look..

Barring that.. you’ll be wondering how many mini-Leaning Tower statuetes the vendors have got through in the last 20 odd years, and almost hoping that the Tower just falls, so there’s something else to see..

Well, sort of.. :)

A tip I have about this place

Take the local train from Firenze, not the express. Visit the grocery store at the last stop, and pick up a bottle of local Chianti.

There are one-hundred and thirty nine steps to the top of the tower, and they are not hewn evenly of the marble. Be cognizant of that, and also that it’s an adventure walking down. Avoid making jokes about dominoes when there are elderly people walking in front of you.

Eat the stuffed olives.

Well, worth going to see the Tower but there is so little else to do in Pisa. We stayed in Pisa in a lovely hotel (Hotel Pace) bit we took day trips

Pisa’s kind of a hole. Stop by to see the tower and take pictures, but dont plan to stay a night – there is NOTHING to do!

A review of this place: Brief visit...

Only spent a few hours here in Pisa and I think that’s all the time you need. There’s not much apart from the Leaning tower and the churchs near by. :o)

Nice to visit if you have a few hours up your sleaves.

I flew into Frienze airport, spent about 2 hours in Pisa then headed off to Florence! :o)

A tip I have about this place

Of course it’s worth seeing – out of curiosity if nothing else – but to my mind it’s a real rip-off joint and, if you’re using the airport, you’re much better off staying at Lucca.

Make it quick

I don’t recommend spending a whole lot of time here. Firenze (Florence) is an hour away by car or train and is a much more vibrant and interesting city. Pisa has the leaning tower and the church grounds it sits on…honestly not worth more than 5 hours of your time. Staying over night (it doesn’t have much of a night life to speak of) would be a waste of time better spent in Firenze. Just a humble opinion of this traveler.
