Beautiful mosaics!

The Byzantine cathedral here used to be the spiritual centerpiece of the government seat of the Byzantine Empire. In the light, the mosaics in the inside scintillate like stars. Worth the trip!

There were marvlsess mosaics and cold churches. And many tourists… Just Italy

After a quarter century of learning about the mosaics here, I finally saw them in person. I’m speechless—but happy to answer questions. Want to see the most beautiful Byzantine-style mosaics outside of Istanbul (and maybe even including Istanbul)? This is the place.

It’s the Bermuda Triangle in terms of driving in and out, but I’m so glad I was able to see this little town! The mosaics are stunning!

i did a day trip from rome to ravenna. got off the train, rented a bike and tooled around the city. it was amazing—the mosaics in this city are in beautiful condition (as it is the only thing that drives the local economy) but the result is a truly wonderous sparkly experience. i highly recommend taking a trip out to this lovely little town.

24 years ago, on the Baptistery of the Orthodox, the one next to the Duomo. I’ve never seen the place live, though, and I am beside myself that in the next month, I’m going to see it. We’ve scheduled 2 days in Ravenna, and I can hardly wait!

This is a town that merits some time – and what an incredible history this one time capitol of the Roman empire has. . .
