Münster aka: Muenster

The Christmas markets are so much fun and a great place to find cheap holiday gifts. They have lots of handmade items that range in price but you can find some great ones for 5 euros.

Also go and see the beautiful churches and cathedrals. I was only in the city for a day and I want to go back because it has a lot to offer.

Excellent city, i want to come back.

I lived here for a year after finishing college—best year of my life. It’s a very cool university town that has both a hip-student-y vibe but is also very set in its ways as a provincial town. The saturday market is great; get the Bratfisch, which was always a favorite as we’d stagger around the market, hungover from drinking at the Destille the night before. And find Oma who gives you samples of cheese (if she’s still there).

There’s also enough culture and history to keep you busy, if that’s your thing. For tourists I’d also recommend seeing the “Water Castles” that are in the surrounding countryside.

It’s hard not to love this place. I really miss it.

My family is from Sassenberg and Ilde, near Muenster. I visited in Fall 2001, and hope to get back soon.

Münster was my home for over a year while I attended a German university. I would move back in a heartbeat! If you’re ever in the city on a Wednesday or Saturday, don’t miss the Wochenmarkt, as well as the cages hanging from the Lambertikirche and bike rides on the Promenade. :-)

I would have never thought about going there if I haven’t had a friend by, but it was a great and funny experience. It has not maybe the architectural or cultural surcharge of some other cities, but that’s definitely a place i’d like to live in, and that makes me dream about …. Numerous, omnipresent cyclable roads, trees and gardens, a big cinema complex with film in original version, and, yay, a little park with funny wooden games for kids, where you can hang on at night while playing guitar… Yep, a nice memory
