Enjoyed my first Fasching parade here – what a blast – reminiscent of Mardis Gras in New Orleans!

Ich war im Zeitungsmuseum zur Ausstellung 400 Jahre Zeitung. Gezeigt werden wichtige Dokumente und Gegenstände für die Zeitungsgeschichte, so der Nachweis für die Genehmigung der ersten Zeitung in Straßburg 1606, aber auch Erfindungen für de Nachrichtenübermittlung, wie der Telegraf, die ältesten Druckmaschinen etc. Im Foyer steht eine restaurierte Druckmaschine von 1925, die einmal pro Woche eine Zeitung produziert.

Well it was fun when I passed through but there really wasn’t much to do. Although I don’t regret going but I didn’t get to do much when I was there.

Mainz Kastel, along the Rhine is magnificent!

I actually didn’t see much of Mainz. We arrived late in the evening and departed the next morning to sail down the Rhine. It seems like a nice enough place but I didn’t come away with much opinion of the place. The Mainz Hyatt hotel was totally awesome though! The bathroom was impressive in of itself, but it was made all the more better in comparison to the hostel bathrooms! :)

I’ve been to Mainz, but I can’t remember much about it: I was two years old at the time! My family lived there while my father worked at the IBM factory.

I went to Mainz when I was in High school as part of a sister cities tour that my high school choir was doing. The people in Mainz are so nice and the country is just awe-inspiring. One of the highlights was the Gutenburg Museum. See the press and how he did what he did was so amazing. And as a youth pastor and religious person seeing the origional Gutenburg Bible made the trip even more enlightening. I actually have a page from the Bible that was done on the press in the museum.

The historical significance of Mainz is awe-inspiring, yet it is still “authentic” Germany.
