I grew up there from 8 to 15

For the most beautiful view of the city, go up to the church that is perched upon the very top of the hill in Marseille. There are lots of vantage points with spectacular views of the bay, surrounding city, and distant countryside.

The fishmarket in the harbour makes it quaint. Lots of absolutely awesome restaurants. A culinary heaven.

living is a whole different story

I lived here for a while. Its a great city. Different. Its not crowded with tourists, like Nice is. It has beaches, sea, sun…
The view from Notre Dame de la Garde is fantastic. The atmosphere at the Stade Velodrome is electric – the place is mad about their football team ‘Olympique de Marseille’
While it is a bit rough around the edges, it is definately worth a visit !

To many pickpockets and robbers. The just robb jour car when you wait on red light or in traffic jam and dissapear in crowds of gypsys islamites and dirty homeless people. I do dot recomend to go there.

Especially the stripey church, which I only saw from the car though. We walked around the city and stumbled on a lot of nice places. We stayed in one of the nearby villages at the sea. The surrounding area was really calm with nice rocky beaches and there weren’t really any other tourists there, which was bliss.

In a week!

... and cheap after a week in Paris. The cocktail of North African and Mediterranean culture was delicious and there was some really great street art there.
