Nîmes

Saw Sting in concert at the Roman amphitheater. I ddn’t get to see much of the city, but it was fantastic to see a concert there!

Great place! Had great lunch and a great sangria. Climbed to the top of the ampitheatre and took amazing pictures!

Nimes was one of the few places I have ever had a bad experience when someone tried to break into my car at midday oposite the bull ring. There are some splendid Roman architectural remains there though which balanced the experience. Not a place for a long stay, try Arles.

The people are so welcoming. The food is to die for. I missed the running of the bulls by one week and didn’t get to see the local collisium yet.

It’s wonderful to see the elements of the ancient against the elements of the new.

Is one of the best places EVER to see a band. I saw Radiohead there in the Summer of 2003 – on a balmy 30 degree evening… one of the best nights of my life.

Questionably the home of denim (d’Nîmes), you should stop off here if you’re in the area to have lunch and check out the fantastic [Roman] buildings, however as a provincial capital it offers little else. It is however a good base from which to radiate out especially as cheapo airline Ryanair fly to the airport (although I gather it may be closing – a fancy modern airport is perhaps a bit beyond the means of this town).
