Nice city trip

For my 22nd birthday my boyfriend and I went to Bordeaux. It took us 6 hours of TGV (from Brussels) but it was worth it. The weekend was great. First of, it was 25°C in late March! Although we had a tourist guide, we just wandered around in the old city, narrow lanes and huge cathedrals. Strolling on the banks of the muddy Garonne. Also pretty parks, designer shops and the longest car-free shopping street in Europe (rue Saint Catherine). We also visited the ‘Croiseur Colbert’, which is an old French war ship that is stationed in Bordeaux and functions as a museum. No tourists at all. The city was recently modernised, so it has a clean look. There are also very futuristic trams. Nightlife: we visited a great Jazz bar (le Port de la Lune) and of course the food was great and quite cheap. Most people do the vinyard tours, but the city itself is very nice for a city trip in spring.

If you Love Wine, You Love Bordeaux

The tourist office at the train station offer half and full day tours to experience Bordeaux. Very well organized and at a very reasonable price (full day was less than 100USD when I went).

However, if y ou love wine, you may want to stay for longer and organize or join a more in depth tour of your favorite wineries.

Experience Bordeaux!

People were even nice...

Flew the valley in a gas balloon and had a wonderful time, eating, drinking wine and getting rested back up! Wine harvest was on!

night time is great

My memory of Bordeaux was night time. We came in the afternoon and were leaving the next day. I remember my toilet having troubles after awhile and me trying to plunge it t fix it!.. hehe.. good memories.. walking around at night is so nice here. Don’t forget to buy their famous wines. If I had more time here I would go on a winery tour.

I was here for a weekend a couple of years ago. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the city as it was under a bunch of construction. Much of the tourist area we came to visit was closed due to the construction. Shopping and restaurants were nice. Beautiful statues and fountains. Day trips out of the cities to the surrounding towns with vineyards (like St Emilion) are more than worth the trip to the big city.
